What To Wear
SHOES
Shoes are the most important piece of running gear. Different types of shoes are designed to fit different types of arches, pronation and preferences. Visit a local running shoe specialty store for proper fitting. Remember, your running shoes will be a half size to over a size larger than most of your other shoes. This is especially important when running downhill if you want to keep your toenails.
BLISTER PREVENTION
Next to great shoes, you’ll want to consider blister prevention for a successful run. Non-cotton, running specific socks are a great start. Using a “Blister Powder” product is also a great idea. Next, you’ll want to discover where you are prone to get blisters. You can do this by doing several training runs that will that are similar terrain as the Half Marathon. Placing “Mole Skin” or “Duck Tape” on areas of your toes and feet that are prone to blister will help prevent friction to these areas.
NON-COTTON LAYERING
For those of you who haven’t figured out it can be COLD in late October in Utah—IT CAN BE COLD!! To allow your body to sweat without your clothes retaining moisture, please avoid ALL cotton fabrics and cotton socks. Generally speaking, you’ll want to dress for weather about 10 degrees warmer than actual temperature when you start the race, because you’re body will warm up. Layering in Polyester-based materials is a great idea. Similarly, several companies make wool-based specialty socks for running.
COSTUMES
One of the most important things you’ll want to be mindful of during your HALLOWEEN run is chafing. Know how your costume is going wear over 13 miles. Products such as “BODYGLIDE” or “DZNUTS”can help prevent chafing.
Please do not wear items that may cut you or be dangerous to other runners.
Large metal jewelry pieces such as bracelets and earrings may feel especially cold at freezing temperatures. Please don’t wear items that will make you feel colder.
Hats, masks, and carried items are permitted, we simply ask that your race number bib be worn at all times and places on the front of your costume.
HAVE FUN!!
